PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter

PMPub 21st September 2016

PMI Budapest Chapter is pleased to announce that the next PMPub logo will take place on 21st September (Wednesday), 2016, 17 hour at GRUND!

The event’s topic is “The role of PMO and Agile methodology in large scale IT programs – and how things can go wrong” where the participants will have the opportunity to overview related issues and questions.

The topic will be discussed with UK born Albert Quraishi, who will share his experiences and thoughts about what works and what does not work with Agile when managing large IT programs onshore and offshore, and why it is important to have Program Managers with subject matter expertise to deliver IT programs successfully.

Albert argues that methodology alone will not be sufficient to manage large scale business transformation programs and that a PMO/PM without proper domain knowledge will not have any added-value to an IT program but may increase risk. During the interview Albert will give some insights into the reasons why big programs failed in the UK over the past decades, such as the Taurus project of the London Stock Exchange, costing half a billion of pounds of loss to stakeholders, as well as the British National Health Service (NHS) patient record system project, costing around 10 billion pounds to British taxpayers - it is said to be the 'the biggest IT failure ever seen' in the UK.

During the conversation Albert will highlight why it is important to have proper program governance in place and why methodologies can have a limited value without proper expert knowledge of the domain, e.g. why a good recipe alone, without a good chef, is not enough to create a good dish.

Our speaker, Albert Quraishi is an IT engineer and presently working at Vodafone Hungary as a vendor Programme Manager on behalf of Virtusa, managing the vendor’s onsite and offshore teams in Vodafone Hungary’s biggest business transformation program ever, called REDsky.

Albert has over 40 years of experience in the IT industry including business consulting, IT program management and large program delivery internationally. He has worked in the fixed and mobile telecommunications, financial services, manufacturing, government, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, transport, health, utilities and defense sectors. Albert joined Virtusa very recently and the Red Sky program at Vodafone Hungary is his first assignment.

The conversation will be moderated by Julianna Czifra, PMP, Program Manager at Vodafone Hungary.

During this PMPub winners of “PM Diploma of the year” competition will be also announced.
