As a project manager, a key aspect of any project is the project status meeting with the client.
It’s a time to gain the client’s trust and keep their interest in the project with the effective presentation of the (hopefully) healthy project status. These meetings can help clients understand the progress of the project and allay any fears or concerns they may have.
Good news for the young people of Britain and the members of the business community who voted against leaving the EU: There is a big chance that, as things stand today, the Brexit project will not succeed. Over the past 15 years, I have analyzed thousands of projects that failed: large and small, private- and public-sector, strategic and operational; programs and portfolios of projects. One thing came across very clearly in my research: All the projects that didn’t deliver their expected outcomes were missing at least three of nine characteristics of good project management practices that I identified.
Efficient processes and smooth relationships create the opportunity for successful projects. And having team members personally commit to your project’s success gives you the greatest chance of achieving it. Therefore, your major task as a project manager is to encourage every team member to be motivated and committed to your project’s success.
Don't forget! Motivation is a personal choice — the only person you can motivate directly is yourself. You can create the opportunity for other people to become motivated, but you can’t make the decision for them.
